My name is Amanda Gallagher, and I am an Emerging Museum Professional. Developing out of a cultural-focused education, I am driven to create total public access in cultural institutions, and engagement in historical material.
My belief is that public access and education starts with an accessible collection. Museum collections should be perceived as tools for the public to engage with museums through programming, exhibits, and research opportunities. Interest in collections allows for artefacts to be reclaimed by the public and reinvented with new purpose. Historical interpretation, and all its complexities, creates meaningful connections to the public. This is the type of engagement I wish to achieve.
“…we can bring bring to bear on public issues in the public forum, and in so doing we can find greater personal satisfaction and fulfill our vision of the contribution that history can make to society.” – Michael Cassity, “History and the Public Purpose”
