Mount Making

As part of our large group exhibit, each member of the class created a mount specific to their exhibit pod with a single artifact. My artifact was a pair of wedding shoes which I condition reported, did light cleaning treatment on, and eventually created it’s mount. This project required research into normal footwear mount processes, conservation research (as my artifact had brittle leather on its heel portion), and conceptual design in order to best create a mount.

Skills Demonstrated:

  • Manual dexterity
  • Conservation – locating and working with conservation concerns of artifacts
  • Utilizing standards – working under exhibit design parameters
  • Completionism – seeing through a design from conception to completion
