A core component of the MMC program is that we meet many professionals through our classes in the form of workshops or guest lectures. These opportunities shape our views in the museum workforce, and I can attest that they help with our decisions for future internships and projects, and are overall inspirational.
Throughout the program, I have attended workshops on collecting Oral Histories, an introduction to the Canadian Conservation Institute’s ReOrg program, and theatre within heritage institutions (through the 2017 Ontario Museum Association conference). Guest lectures included topics on curatorial publications, built heritage preservation efforts, and working with Indigenous history. The MMC program also has many connections in the museum community, and because of these ties we enjoyed numerous on-site visits to heritage institutions like the Art Gallery of Peterborough, Canadian Canoe Museum, and the Pickering Museum Village for their Spirit Walk.
This list is a fraction of the content from our program – I hope to keep up with these experiences once the program concludes!
